Fable III Confirmed For PC Retail, GFW Download-Only

Xbox 360 isn't the only platform that will be getting Lionhead'sFable III this year.

Publisher Microsoft on Friday said that the next installment of the action role-playing series will be hitting PCs by Christmas this year.

Rumors of a PC version emerged on the web earlier this year when Microsoft released box art for the Xbox 360 version that noted it would also be available on Windows PC.

While the PC version will be available at retail, to download Fable III, customers will have to go directly to Microsoft through the Games on Demand service of Games for Windows - Live, meaning the game will not be appearing on other download services such as Steam or Direct2Drive.

The Windows version will sell for $49.99, versus the Xbox 360 version, which sells for $59.99 for the standard version and $79.99 for the limited collector's edition.

The PC won't get a collector's edition, but Microsoft said the special downloadable content in the Xbox 360 version will "also [be] available for Windows users." Both PC and Xbox 360 versions of the game have yet to receive a specific release date.

Created by Lionhead's Peter Molyneux, the Fableseries launched on the original Xbox in 2004, later appearing in extended format on PC and Xbox asFable: The Lost Chapters. 2008's Fable II was an Xbox 360 exclusive.
